What rotten decking actually adds to a roof job, and why the honest answer is a pricing method, not a number.
It depends entirely on how many sheets are bad, and nobody can know that until the old roof is off. What you can and should control is the pricing method: a good proposal states a per-sheet price for decking replacement up front, so if rot is found there is a number you already agreed to rather than a renegotiation on your driveway. Decking sits under the shingles and the underlayment, so it is not something anyone can see from the ground or from a ladder. Extensive decking replacement across large sections of a roof usually means there was a long-running leak or a real ventilation problem, and that is worth understanding rather than simply paying for, because if the underlying cause is not addressed, the new deck can end up wet again for the same reason the old one was.

Replacing wet decking without fixing why it was wet is buying the same problem again in a few years.
